João Henrique Imperia Martini holds a Master’s degree in Constitutional Law from the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (PUC-SP). He completed an international diploma in human rights through a program jointly offered by the Center for Studies of the State Prosecutor’s Office, the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law, the Heidelberg Center for Latin America, and PUC-SP. He earned his Law degree from the Pontifical Catholic University of Campinas (PUC-Campinas).
He is a member of the Brazilian Institute of Criminal Sciences (IBCCRIM) and the Institute for the Defense of the Right to Defense (IDDD), as well as the Special Committee on Defensive Investigation of the São Paulo Bar Association (OAB/SP). João also takes part in the Legal Department of FIESP (DEJUR).
Former partner at the law firm Tofic Simantob, Perez e Ortiz (2021–2025).
João served as a Public Defender for the State of São Paulo for 14 years (until 2021), during which he conducted thousands of criminal hearings, hundreds of oral arguments, and numerous jury trials. He also held leadership roles as Criminal Advisor to the Public Defender General and Coordinator of the Appeals and Superior Courts Unit, representing clients before the São Paulo Court of Justice, the Superior Court of Justice (STJ), and the Federal Supreme Court (STF).
